System and Dynamics of Grameen Banking

Group training is the important aspect of Grameen Banking System. This training period is the platform where we have to sow the seed for the beginning of transformation in their socio-economic lives. The success and failure of our micro-credit initiatives, to a large extent, depend upon how effectively we are able to impart this crucial training.

Usually, the first loan is disbursed within one week from the last day of the training. Therefore, the beneficiaries get about one month from the first day of meeting to identify and select the income generating activity they want. It is safe to follow the staggered system of disbursement, known as 2 +2+1 system.

In a group of five members, only two beneficiaries are given loan first.  These two will be decided by the group members themselves. Thus, the rest   of the group members get an opportunity to monitor their prompt  re- payment, proper utilization of loan, mandatory presence for the weekly meeting etc. Group pressure and dynamism is built up as the remaining  three members get their loans only  if the former two fulfill their duties and obligations as per the  rules and regulations.

Repayment :  At Centre & at Office

After the Loan disbursement, there is a weekly meeting at a time and place decided by the beneficiaries.  This meeting  place is not only a place for repayment transaction, but also a venue to address discuss and resolve various socio-economic issues and problems.

Center Leader with the assistance from Group Leaders conduct the meeting and repayment transactions with the field officer from SRI acting as a facilitator.
